The Philippine seismology chief Teresito Bacolcol said his agency would issue a tsunami warning after the quake, which struck about 20 kilometres away from the town of Manay at 9:43am local time (11:43am AEST).

One-metre waves were forecast on the country's Pacific coast over the next two hours, the Philippine seismology office said.  It also urged residents in coastal areas in the affected zone "to immediately evacuate to higher grounds or move farther inland". There were no immediate reports of damage.

The United States Tsunami Warning System also issued a tsunami threat, saying hazardous waves were possible for coasts within 300km of the quake's epicentre. In the half-hour after the initial quake, the USGA also recorded multiple aftershocks in a similar location, including tremors of magnitudes ranging between 5.6 and 6.0.

I was in Subic when that earthquake hit Luzon in 1990 and unfortunately it was followed by the eruption of Mount Pinatubo a year later.  Not a fun time to be there back then.  But I'll take an earthquake over a volcano any day.

There's a massive fault line that goes through Eastwood and right next to BGC. We're basically cooked either way so I'm just gonna run out and fly out the country.

Ok… Not the deadliest earthquake in history.  The fact that 8,000 that died and most “resulted from the tsunami that followed the quake” is proof - the Boxing Day tsunami off Banda Aceh killed a quarter million - and that is without searching for worse earthquakes.

If you are afraid of earthquakes, move somewhere that doesn’t really have them.  If not, be aware of actions you should take during an earthquake or tsunami, and move on with life.

One of the big problems in the Philippines is the chaos that follows. The infrastructure and public emergency services are barely functional as is. I think many condos might actually survive but with severe damage. The mini shanty slum towns all around manila will be toast though. 

There will also be massive electrical fires everywhere since everyone in those places are illegally tapping electricity or there are wires strung up haphazardly everywhere.

I think Manila Bay somewhat shields Metro Manila? [This simulation](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PBRJFmUxfo) shows the waves will be dampened somewhat as they enter the bay. There will be damage, but not to the level of the 2004 Indonesia one. 

It's the Eastern seaboard that's more vulnerable, since it faces the Pacific ocean.

Earthquake is an issue because of multiple fault lines going across Manila.

Tsunami? Probably not as big an issue. Manila is protected by Manila Bay and a tsunami can only enter from a very specific angle. Luckily, you have Corregidor and Caballo Islands are right at the entrance. If you extend further southwest, you also have Lubang Island.

I'd worry more about west side of Bataan and Cavite.

I'm not an expert here, but Mariveles and Corregidor Island will most certainly take the blunt of the tsunami first, and will alert most of Manila residents, and that's what I can offer. Wala pa ring epekto yun, though sa lakas ng tsunami, hahaha; at least makakatakbo na, hahaha.
